Hair How-To: Braid&Out.

So, I must say I love myself a good braid out; it's become one of my fave' styles. I've rifled through a number of ways of doing it and I've found that this way gives me the best results!

Tools:
→ Rat-Tail Comb [for parting]
→ Wide-Toothed Comb [for handling actual strands]
→ Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme
→ Kemi Oyl
→ Satin Scarf/Bonnet
→ Bobby pins/Elastic bands/Hair jewels [optional]

P.S. Moisturizer of your choice can be used but I love the moisture and definition the Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme gives me and at $3.19 it's a pretty good buy. Same goes for the Kemi Oyl.

I. Section hair to your liking. I usually start on the right side of my head above my ear and make a square part about 1" - 2" wide x 1" - 2" tall. Perfect parts are not necessary, but I keep my braids in for a day or two so I try to make them as neat as possible.

II. Apply a small amount of Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme or chosen moisturizer throughout the sectioned hair. Comb it through to fully saturate/coat hair in that section.

III. Seal section with a drop or two of your chosen oil. I use Kemi Oyl because it really provides great softness and shine. I've found a more affordable bottle than that tiny 1. oz for $3.29 in a 10. oz bottle for around $9/10 bucks at a local BSS.

IV. Begin your braid. I start at the very top of the section and cornrow across it and then plait the ends. I braid going in the direction of the tallest section of the part, so the sides its usually down.

V. Repeat steps 1-4 until entire head is finished. I usually do the front left and right and then go to the back of my hair. Doing the perimeter of my hair and working inward works best for me.

VI. From here you can remove the braids within a few hours [once hair's "dried"/"set"] or keep them in for a day or two. If I keep them in, I pin them back so they look sort of ... styled rather than a bunch of short plaits over my head.

Tips:
→ Toss on a colorful elastic band or one that blends with your hair to pull hair out of your face.
→ Pin your hair up in a regal coif to add body to the definition you've gained.
→ Dress up your locs with some kind of hair jewelry.

P.P.S The pinned hair in my photos is slept on / like a day old and I'm a rough sleeper. I had better definition before I slept all crazy. Haha.

Same technique different day. Without pinning it up, just put on an elastic headband.

Hairstory: I. Such A Good Hair Day!

I had the best hair day today! I just really came on here to say that. Simple wash&go but I pinned the front middle back a little so it was kinda "stylish." I want to get some cute hair jewelry and add some pizzazz. I should've put one of my cute lil cowrie shells, but I didn't think about it.

I had the best curl definition but it was still full and it shrunk but not too bad. I did the same thing but when I rinsed the conditioner at after my co-wash I didn't touch my hair, just let the water run over my head and shook away the loose water and it also seemed to make the curls grab ahold of each other. The back of my hair is so much different from the top. I know its a different texture but it's weird to see such a gross difference. They're like little baby superman ringlets in the back which happen to be getting pretty long or more noticeably because I think they're more weighed down. Then at the top its really curly, but it doesn't clump as much.

I wish I had a picture, but I didn't take one. I'll still one whenever my friend puts the pictures she took today up and edit this post. Ha! I'm really sleepy, so I'm gonna get out of here.

Hair How-To: Wash&Go.

The wash&go is the most simple and easy to do style for both natural and relaxed ladies. I love the freshness and versatility of the style. So, here's how I do it:

Tools:
→ Conditioner
→ Towel
→ Fantasia IC Gel w/Sparklites
→ BTZ! Noodlehead
→ Moisturizing Spritz

I. Co-Wash hair with condish of choice, I use V05 Free Me Freesia or Suave Aloe&Waterlily. I don't rinse it all the way out - leave just a bit. I then shake my head to get rid of some of the excess water.

II. I don't towel dry; instead, I let it drip. While hair is still quite wet I take a generous amount of gel and distribute it throughout hair. Run hands from front to back repeatedly to distribute and scrunch specific spots if necessary.

III. Then I squirt small glob of BTZ! Noodlehead and rub hands together before using the same method to distribute it through out hair. You're going to have to smooth it repeatedly to keep it from being visible.

IV. Style it! Be creative. You can pull hair back into a puff, bobby pin hair up or away from face or toss on an elastic headband.

V. Spritz with your favorite spray-able moisturizer. I use my glycerin-mix and lightly mist the hair for added moisture and softness.

VI. Go about your business and continue the day!

Welcome to Reach Back & Gro' @ duafe-sankofa.blogspot.com. The premise of this blog is to chronicle my own journey while providing tips and information for happy hair growing.

About the blogger: I'm Eunique a nineteen [19] year-old HBCU sophomore. I enjoy journalism, politics, literature, sneakers, writing and hair care. I've been natural since 12|27|07 and am in love with the tresses God has given me.

About the blogger's hair: My hair type is a mixture of 4a, 3c, 4b. The majority of my head is 4a, but the very back center is covered in 3c curls and the rest of my head is littered with spots of 4b.

The longest parts of my hair are about 3in long and the shortest about 2in save for a spot on the left upper nape which is less than an inch due to steady breakage. This has been a problem area for as long as I can remember.

About the blogger's regimen: I can normally be found sporting a wash&go or some type of 'out' style whether it be from the unraveling of braids or double strand flat-twists.

I cleanse my hair every weekend. I sometimes cleanse with only conditioner [V05 Free Me Freesia or Suave Aloe&Water Lily] or with shampoo [Mane 'n Tail Moisturizing Shampoo]; however, I'm looking into trying the Organix brand shampoo/conditioner in the near future. After cleansing I deep condition. I alternate between ORS Replenishing Paks and Nexxus Humectress or my special Coco-Condish. I then proceed to style or let my hair air-dry and shrink up. If I'm not wearing an 'out' then I co-wash daily with the V05 or Suave conditioners.
